Nederland 1/2

Finally I got the first half of the holiday pics from Holland uploaded here... I know, I have been avoiding it since I came back 'cos it's always a slight fight with Blogger when uploading tons of pics, but here you are, I did it!

It's only a year ago when I was there last time and I know, this might feel a bit repeating but still, totally different trip - different memories. However the schedule of this one was quite same than last time - at first a day tour in A'dam and then heading to city to stay, which was Utrecht this time.

Got everything I need?!

Nice view...

Almost there..

Schiphol Airport (in a toilet as you see... that's where it starts. Always.)

On our way to A'dam...

We arrived to Amsterdam already before noon so we had time to wander around the city the whole day. Size of the city center is quite nice because it's small enough to walk around by foot from the central station to Van Gogh museum area... For the girls this was the first time there so we had just enough time to see all we needed.

From the Schiphol airport we took a train to the city center which is always the best option. I've once made a mistake and took a cab and that's not cheap fun I can tell. So train is it, and it costs less than 4e. Smart choice. At the central railway station you can find really handy lockers where to leave luggage and one locker for a middle size suitcase cost 5e. It's paid with credit card and you can keep ur stuff there one to three days. The luggage area is supervised so all help needed is always available... Just eg for a blonde like me who first locked the locker next to the one where my own suitcase was. Well, a friendly old man came to help me out and I didn't have to pay twice ;)

Heading to the city center...

It cannot be that hard... seriously?!

Madden is found from the main shopping street called Kalverstraat.

I just wanted to see these letters!! Everyone visited in A'dam got a pic with those and now I've got one too!!! :D
F*ck Meri, she is famous! (Or just wearing boots and bag with studs and this girl was interested in trends...) How comes? :D

How tourist can you be?! Seriously :D
Kuten näkyy, me oltiin todella turisteja.

We were soooo tourists. But that's what we are there I guess. These "I amsterdam" letters were something that I really wanted see this time, and just only because everyone else has done so. Last time we skipped the whole thing because we thought that the park is just so far... yeah right. It's not. Basically the easiest way to get there is just walk straight from the station as far as you reach the museum and the park area. The main city center is kind of surrounded by channels on the map and this museum area with the park is right after those... hard to explain but when u check the map u get the point :)

Flowers, flowers and more flowers... in every corner.
My healthy lunch...
The Dutch start it young. Like really young...

Indeed...
I don't really eat junk like this. Like never...
... But we don't count holidays, do we?!

Hihihii... When I was 17, my Dutch friends called our fat teacher "oliebollen". Now I got the joke :D (Took only 10 years...)

@A'dam station...

Trust me, I know.
- Käteinen on ihan must.

We arrived to Utrecht around 18 and just as before this trip went convenient by train. Our "host" Ralph didn't live in the city center so we had to change a train once and head one stop further to Utrecht Terwijde.

At this point I want btw to note something about travelling by train in NL...
- They don't sell tickets in train. 2 euros ticket turns to 35 euros ticked if they check those and you don't have one. Trust me, I know. Luckily I got away from this awkward situation by smiling but I won't try my luck twice :D
- You can buy a ticket in advance from a ticket machine but be prepared with some cash. Those don't accept normal credit cards like Visa or Master excluding the biggest stations.
- Same thing in grocery stores. Cash is needed. They only accept some kind of Maestro-card of their own but not Visa or Master. Clothing stores in the city center and of course ticket machines in the biggest stations like A'dam accept the credit cards (usually) but it's not something you can trust at.
- Cash it is!

Just FYI if you travel outside A'dam :)

On our way to Utrecht...
Hihihi.. So much fun!!!
...or not.
Utrecht Terwijde
Utrecht by night

I was so tired after only 1,5h sleep but the first night in NL wasn't for sleeping. We headed to a grocery store with the girls to buy some wine and started the evening at Ralph's. Our host had work to do next day so he couldn't join us, but there was one other old friend, Freek, to meet that night. In fact, last time I met him was approx. 4 years ago. That's a long time!

It's just funny how time flies but still nothing really changes. I mean, of course something always changes during so long time but still, not really. It's kind of weird that you've met someone like ages ago and then when you meet him again, it's like no time at all. Funny. Of course there are exceptions but now when talking about my Dutch friends, time means nothing. I used to be a tutor in Haaga-Helia during 5 semesters and I just must say that the best ones got picked from there for sure (...and definately the cutest ones let me say... ;) and it's just great that we are still keeping in touch. It's just great. Aaaaw, Cannot explain the feeling. It must be experienced <3

Long time no seen! :)

...and still I cannot act properly.
Trying...
#lovely moments

There must be something...
...very important to tell...
...or not.

Vanhuus?! :D

Thursday night was just great and time flied in great company. Naturally Friday wasn't the sharpest one so we stayed late in bed and finally headed to the city center for dinner. We had an hour to check some stores too, but I'll write about shoppings later... there were too much of those :D

We ended up to had our dinner in Olivier, which was actually an old church. Later on Freek in fact mentioned that it's quite common in NL that old churches are used as restaurants. Just because there are more people for restaurants than for churches... How logical, haha :D

Originally our plan was to go out also on Friday night but somehow sleeping won and we decided to stay home. Afterwards I'm maybe a bit disappointed that we didn't live every night to the fullest but sometimes it goes like this. Getting old?! :D

Meri <3

Goat cheese salad...

I could kill for those fries!!! So goooood!
Olivier

That's about the first two days... We'll check the rest later on :)

  1. Millainen hintataso tuolla on? :)

    1. Aikalailla sama hintataso kuin Suomessa. Alkoholituotteet tosin on selkeästi edullisempia, koska kilpailu on vapaampaa ja viinaa saa ostettua ihan tavallisista ruokakaupoista.
